Family Pictures with Teenagers
Family Pictures with teenagers
Dad reached out before Christmas to purchase a gift certificate for a family session as a present to his wife. I’m going to be honest, 85% of the time someone is calling to book a session it is a woman- ok, maybe 90%. But I love when I get the chance to chat with the husband/ son/ father. We had a good conversation. Mostly I gave him some pointers. Number one, do not “surprise” her with the photoshoot. No one wants that- cause you know it would be a bad hair day and you will have no clean clothes. The second thing I said was, this is not really a gift for her if she has to do all the planning. So, the real gift is if you do the work to schedule the actual session. You find the days that work, you reach out to me to put it on my schedule- THEN you have actually given her a gift. I am happy to say that Dad listened and followed through! With their oldest heading off to college it was a great time to get some family pictures, and I love family pictures with teenagers.. As I approached their home I passed this amazing nature preserve area and we decided to go there!
Now if you know me you know I love teenagers! But many people shy away from family pictures with teenagers. Clearly as I do so many senior pictures this is not an issue for me. Parents remember to get family pictures when the kids are little but often forget to get them when they are older. So consider this your reminder!
We started off easy…a few poses… a few smiles. Nothing too challenging.

We then decided to go exploring and I focused on the kids. I need to give this crew some credit- they were great sports and understood the assignment that mom really wanted these pictures. I always try to add movement in to pictures. I know it sounds weird but movement helps get natural expressions.

Thank you to the P family for being so laid back and fun on a wonderful warm spring night. Ready to book your own family pictures with your not so little kids? Please reach out!
